The Bathroom Manufacturers Association announced the winners of its Sustainability Awards 2022 at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester.
CEO of the BMA Tom Reynolds opened the event by outlining the efforts of all entrants to reduce the industry’s impact on the planet.
The Sustainability Awards were independently judged by journalists, industry experts, academics, and representatives from NGOs.

One judge stated “the BMA and its members are so far ahead of others in the construction supply chain on sustainability, it’s inspiring.”
The Early Journey Award was presented to Be Modern for having started taking strides toward a more environmentally-friendly business model.
Judges commented on the award “The quality of the entries in this category was high, with a strong focus across the full gamut of sustainability actions.
“The winning entry was systematic and methodical, changing low-hanging fruit while looking at the bigger picture. The entry epitomises what this category is about.”
The Workplace Initiative Award, which recognises how employers can benefit the environment by nudging their staff’s behaviours both inside and outside of work, was presented to Mira.
Commenting on the winner, the judging panel said the winner “took a bottom-up approach by using their energy and enthusiasm to promote sustainability initiatives within the organisation.”
The Circular Economy Award, which recognises companies’ efforts in materials stewardship, reducing or removing waste, and designing products with repairability in mind, was presented to Grohe..
The judges said its entry showed the company was exploring the circular economy with commitment and rigour, setting new standards for the bathroom industry and the built environment as a whole.
And leading the race to reduce their carbon impact, Mira Showers was presented with The Carbon Reduction Award.
The judges said the quality of the entries was remarkably high but chose the winner for its innovation to help building developers and homeowners drive down emissions from hot water use.
Recognising innovation to improve water efficiency in the bathroom, The Water Efficiency Award was presented to Cistermiser.
The judges remarked this was a tough category for the entrants because of the strong pedigree of innovation around water efficiency, making it hard to achieve anything other than marginal gains.
However, the panel said they liked it as a new and novel approach, remarking that it focused on an area of huge potential.
Encouraging consumers to make more sustainable choices, whether through marketing or product, was the rationale behind the Special Recognition for Driving Behaviour Change presented to Triton Showers.
In addition, this year saw a Special Commendation Award given to Roman Showers for its comprehensive contribution to sustainability, as the judges stated: “This is excellent stuff; they are setting a great path.”
On closing the ceremony, BMA Chief Executive, Tom Reynolds, thanked judges, sponsors and entrants, as he said: “Thank you to everyone in this room for your entries and, more importantly, the effort you put into sustainability every single day.
“It’s tough, but bit by bit, year by year, we are transforming this industry to do its bit for the planet.”
Speaking at the inaugural BMA Sustanability Awards, last year, then BMA president John Robinson urged the industry to “leave a legacy”.
