According to a recent industry poll, there has been mixed fortunes for KBB retail at the start of the year.

Kitchen trends to watch in 2023

The retail insights poll, organised by Kitchens & Bathrooms News, found that there was an even split between differing retail business performances.

It revealed 38% of 135 respondents found business in January was down on the same time last year, with 31% stating business has remained about the same as 2022.

However, just under a third of respondents (31%)  reported KBB retail sales were up on January 2022.

In an exclusive video interview with Kitchens & Bathrooms News, sales director of buying group MHK UK Paul Wheeler and sales manager David Morris said its retail members were reporting good business.

Paul Wheeler added:  “It’s buoyant. It’s positive. Part of that is because we’re dealing with very good quality businesses – not letting the market dictate to them.

“They’re going out and finding ways to create demand, create enquiries and then acting on them.”

Managing director of MHK UK Marcel Creezee reiterated their view putting some figures to their assertions: “The kitchen-index -meter Export from German kitchens to the UK is still very positive with an  increase of more than 16% compared to the previous comparison year.

“The total export turnover of the German kitchen industry in the UK is almost 7.00%

“So it all still looks positive, but standing still means going backwards and that entrepreneurs must be innovative, but certainly also vigilant in order to be able to respond quickly to changed market situations.”

Managing director of Quooker Stephen Johnson highlighted challenges are part of business and said the industry must remain positive.

He said: “Facing challenges is just part of the process of growth and improvement, and as a resourceful industry, we are well equipped to tackle them with creativity and determination.

“The desire for home improvements continues to be strong, and top-end kitchens are still in high demand.

“Showrooms remain a key factor in driving sales, and it’s important to create an inspiring environment to engage consumers and drive sales even further.

“Let’s focus on the future and continue making positive, forward-thinking actions.

“With our drive, creativity and determination, we can overcome any obstacle and reach new heights in our industry!”
