Bathroom manufacturer Geberit is celebrating its 150 year anniversary, marking a journey from a one-man business to an international group.
Established in 1874 in Rapperswill, Switzerland, by founder Albert Gebert, he designed a lead-lined wooden cistern in 1904.
Geberit introduced the first plastic cistern in 1952 and reportedly the world’s first concealed cistern in 1964.

It acquired the Finnish sanitaryware business Sanitec in 2015, which included Twyford and Keramag Design brands, with models for retail rebranded as Geberit.
Today, Geberit employs more than 10,000 people, globally, across 26 sites including its UK HQ in Warwick.
Reflecting on the milestone, managing director at Geberit UK Mark Larden commented: “At Geberit, we pride ourselves on taking a good thing and making it great!
“This has been our credo since day one and in doing so, we always put our customers at the centre of everything we do.
“Over the past 150 years, Geberit’s values and objectives haven’t changed, despite growing from a small family business to the European market leader for sanitary products.
“We’re proud to be celebrating Geberit’s 150 year anniversary this year with our employees, customers and business partners at various events throughout the year.
“The celebrations include new product development, product launches and the release of a book about the company’s history, allowing stakeholders to reminisce about the past and look forward to a future filled with continued success.”
To further commemorate this milestone year, Geberit UK is launching a local initiative to support the local community with 150 Acts of Kindness campaign.
As part of the initiative each Geberit UK employee has pledged their commitment to complete an ‘act of kindness’ within the 150th year.
These “Acts” can include donation to local food banks, volunteering at a local community kitchen or even helping out at the local care home.
Plus, as a patron of the CRASH UK construction industry charity, Geberit UK has pledged to match any monies raised.
