The 4k lock to lock event takes place on September 6, 2015
Home appliance brand Amica is kicking off a year-long programme of supporting grass roots sport events, with sponsorship of Oxford’s first open water swim on The Thames.
The 4k lock to lock event, which takes place on September 6, is the first of three river swims launched by local triathletes and businessmen Bob Gibson and Darrin Roles.
Around 250 people are expected to take part and the event is open to swimmers, with the minimum age limit as 14, following registration for the 4k lock to lock and an entrance fee of £40.

The sponsorship includes branding and a suite of home appliances worth £1,000 to the winner. Country manager for Amica in the UK & Ireland, Simon Freear said: “We have involved six retailers in the immediate Oxford area in this event. Supporting local sports focusing on young people is a key part of our marketing focus for the coming 12 months.
“Although the 4k Lock to Lock is also open to experienced adult athletes, the entry age actually starts at 14 and there are plenty of opportunities for spectators to watch events as they unfold along the way.”
