The British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installation (BiKBBI) has launched Accredited Installation Methods (AiM), KBB installation certification for retailers.
The accreditation scheme is for retailers of all sizes, from small independent showrooms to national retail brands, as well as manufacturers and distributors operating in the domestic refurbishment market and construction sectors.
It covers full kitchen, bedroom and bathroom installs, worksurfaces, and appliance installation including showers, specialist taps, wall panelling, flooring, lighting, white goods and underfloor heating.

AiM has been designed to establish a recognised industry standard that reduces risk, demonstrates credibility and provides quality assurance to all stakeholders involved in the KBB installation process.
The initiative assesses the methodology of installation including compliance, contractor relationships, welfare, health & safety, installation delivery, consumer proposition, contracts and terms, and service levels.
AiM certification for retailers will run separately, but in parallel to BiKBB registered kitchen and bathroom fitters.
BiKBBI is working with 16 “trailblazer” companies, from housebuilders to KBB manufacturers, worktop fabricators to small, medium and large retailers, to help shape the AiM Certification scheme and start the program.
It is currently registering retailer, manufacturer and distributor interest for the AiM certification scheme on the BiKBBI website, with aims for all businesses to want to be part of the certification.
At the launch of AiM, the BiKBBI also announced it is heading the Government-led Interior Systems Super Sector Forum, a group of construction organisations, businesses and associations, focusing on trade competency for fitted KBB products in newbuild and RMI.
CEO of the BiKBBI Damian Walters commented “AiM is another piece of a complex jigsaw that will contribute to positive change within the industry and indeed the raising of standards.
“For the first time, we have a robust mechanism to not only acknowledge those businesses who deliver a compelling installation service, but also to those who would benefit from advice, guidance and support in the development of their proposition.
“AiM will help businesses and brands to develop their service, maximising commercial opportunities, whilst at the same time reducing risk.
“This will be a game-changer for our industry and its success will be reliant on the industry embracing and supporting this progression.”
