Despite the global shortage of raw materials, which is likely to have an impact on UK construction over the coming months, consumer awareness is low says Checkatrade.
Recent consumer research from the tradesperson vetting website revealed only a fifth of Brits (22%) have heard of the shortages and understand how they may affect them.
However, 21% of respondents have experienced delays in either a home improvement job being started or completed due to a shortage of raw materials, over the last 12 months.

The online survey was conducted by Opinium from June 4-8, 2021 and had a sample size of 2,003 UK adults.
Increased demand, the impact of Brexit and recovery from the pandemic have all had a knock-on effect on building materials supply.
CEO of Checkatrade Mike Fairman commented: “The property and home renovation market has been booming over the last year and demand shows no sign of slowing down – our site had its busiest ever day in May, whilst searches for the full month were up 67% year-on-year.”
The website is recommending homeowners factor these shortages into upcoming home improvement projects and has called for consumers to discuss timelines with vetted and reviewed tradespeople.
Nick McNally of retailer Kitchens by Nick McNally said supply issues and subsequent price hikes in building materials may see consumers pare back money on the kitchen or bathroom.
