Duravit factory with “world first” electric kilns to start production

Bathroom manufacturer Duravit’s ceramic plant in Canada, which it claims will include the world’s first electric roller kilns powered by renewable energy, will go live in 2025.
Having started work on the facility in Matane, Canada, in September 2024, the first of two kilns are expected to start production in 2025.
The plant will mainly produce sanitaryware tailored to the American market and will reportedly save up to 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide, annually.

Measuring 35,000sqm, the production hall is completed and ready for the roller kilns, which have been specifically designed for this factory.
The kilns are operated almost entirely using renewable hydroelectric power, which Duravit says will save the Canadian factory up to 8,500 tons of carbon dioxide each year.
Additionally, the bathroom manufacturer is investing in driverless transport systms and a modern die-casting process to boost efficiency.
According to Duravit, the location of the facility on the Saint Lawrence river makes for easier logistics and goods transport, saving up to 1,500 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
“We’re expecting the first toilet to roll out of the new facility in Canada in the third quarter of 2025”, commented Christian Gilles, formerly production manager at the Hornberg factory and now head of manufacturing in Mantane.
“We’ve essentially assembled the perfect ceramic factory, here”, he exclaimed.
