KBB furniture manufacturer J&J Ormerod (JJO) has unveiled a carbon calculator for retailers, helping homeowners make more informed choices around sustainability.
Developed with The Carbon Trust, the calculator provides cradle-to-gate carbon data for all JJO kitchen products.
It collates the embodied carbon, with the greenhouse gas emissions, to provide a carbon footprint associated with each project as it leaves the factory.

Managing director of JJO Stephen Greenhalgh said: “We want homeowners to be able to make more informed, data-driven choices around sustainability.
“The data provided by our unique carbon calculator will help homeowners to see the difference their buying decisions will make and know that a JJO kitchen will move them closer to a carbon neutral position.
“We are excited about how the calculator will add value and a real point of difference to our retail and trade partners’businesses too as more consumers make decisions driven by their desire to reduce their environmental impact.”
In the last five years, alone, JJO has invested “heavily” in the green economy, with a range of electric vehicles and hybrids for local staff and area sales managers.
In addition, it has installed £400k worth of solar panels at the Bacup main site, in Lancashire, that provide 40% of its power requirements, and biomass energy systems to heat JJO’s three sites, underlining the company’s commitment to net zero.
Greenhalgh added: “We actively and continually review the impact of the business on the environment.
The carbon calculator will help us to identify our emissions hotspots so we can work towards decarbonising them with further sustainable product development.”
All JJO kitchen retailers and trade partners are currently being trained on the JJO Carbon Calculator by their local JJO area sales manager.
