Celebrating its 125th anniversary, premium appliance manufacturer Miele introduced a world-first in laundry at its press conference at IFA in Berlin.
It saw the brand introduce the next generation of top-of-the range laundry W2 and T2, with the washing machine featuring a revised honeycomb drum, which was originally launched over two decades years ago.
Commenting on the launch, Director and Co-proprietor Dr Markus Miele said: “In our 125-year history, Miele has stood for innovative, sustainable and gentle laundry care, almost since our company’s foundation.

“Today, 123 years after the introduction of the first Miele washing machine and 23 years after the launch of the legendary Honeycomb drum, where we took gentle washing to a whole new level, we are taking a step towards the next chapter of history of laundry care.”
The patented InfinityCare drum in the W2 washing machine eliminates ribs to further reduce fabric strain.
Markus Miele added: “Our engineers have solved this dilemma by developing a special rotation rhythm for the drum, which turns the laundry effectively by means of carefully balanced pendulum motions alone”.
This is joined by shorter programme running times, increased flexibility during loading and features including switching on automatically when someone approaches and opening the door with a gentle touch.
While the T2 Nova Edition tumble dryer features a new programme for woollen garments and can dry up to 4 kilograms of laundry in just 49 minutes.
Available in the first quarter of next year, the W2 and T2 both feature ComfortOpen touch control door and MTouch full colour display, with redesigned aesthetic and ambient lights.
Executive director and co-proprietor of Miele Reinhard Zinkann said the strategic milestones of Miele, since its inception, included focusing on appliance manufacture, globalisation and “development of the Miele brand from a brand for washing and tumble dryers, vacuum cleaners and dishwashers – so a cleaning brand – into a lifestyle brand of kitchen appliances of timeless elegance.”
