The British manufacturer is committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including advancing affordable and clean energy, responsible consumption and production, and climate action.
Roman reports it has already embraced the circular economy, with products already boasting “high levels” of recycled content, however has recently looked to further reducing its energy use.
The company has recently installed four renewable energy furnaces, across its 400,000sq ft manufacturing site in County Durham.
These will convert nearly 300 tons of waste wood generated each from supplier packaging into heating, reducing its carbon footprint.
According to the company, it will help mark a “significant” step in Roman’s journey towards its zero-waste future.
In addition to the four furnaces, Roman has upgraded its entire facility with energy-efficient LED lighting, which consume less energy than traditional lamps.
