Owner of Sieger Design, Christian Sieger encourages homeowners to dwell longer in the bathroom, where they have made an investment, and which is focused on health
Speaking at the HIX event at London’s Business Design Centre, he said the bathroom has radically changed, with more and more people seeing it as a living space.
However, he says homeowners should spend more time in the room, which they have spent money on and which is dedicated to well-being.

Christian Sieger said architects and designers recognise the value of connecting to nature.
He stated they are designing kitchens and living rooms with direct access to the garden and creating bathrooms that bring the outdoors inside.
Sieger commented: “How lovely would it be to just step outside and there would be a waterfall, where you can take a nice, fresh shower in the morning, having some birds flying by.
“But that’s not happening. So, therefore, we need to make sure the bathroom at least resembles this as much as possible, using natural materials, bringing greenery inside, etc.”
Sieger continued: “I always try to explain to people to expand the time you’re spending in this room, by adding a chair, so you have a chance to sit down.
“Bring in some artwork, so you enjoy the room. Put some flowers inside the room, etc.
“We invest so much money in the bathroom and, at the end of the day, you just walk in brush your teeth, comb your hair and run out again. That’s so sad.”
Sieger Design has created products for Alape, Dornbracht and Duravit for more than three decades, so is well positioned to understand consumer needs and bathroom architecture requirements.
Christian Sieger explained: “There’s so many people involved in creating this room, bringing in our products, so we have to expand that reclining moment and re-energising time we have there.
“That is luckily happening, with many more products – such as Dornbracht’s new Serenity Sky and Aquahalo, [launched at the opening of its Milan showroom].
“To that extent I am super happy we are on the right track.”
He said the private nature of the bathroom, has seen it take time to become a focus for interior design.
“My father [architect Dieter Sieger] said, 20 years ago, if people could put the bathroom in front of their door, like they do with their new car to make their neighbour jealous, it would motivate everybody so much more”, Christian Sieger commented.
However, he continued “people have now realised they have to do something for themselves. This is about health.
“Next to doing sport, having a good sleep, eating the right foods, I think the bathroom is that place where you can invest in your longevity.”
