Showroom manager and designer at Alexander, in Horsham, Alistair Glover recently won the Kbsa Bedroom Designer of the Year for a seamless aesthetic with practical and decorative storage
Created for a couple who wanted to revamp a bedroom, to create a cohesive aesthetic with storage and display space, Alistair Glover created an award-winning design.
Commenting on the design brief, Glover explained: “The clients had lots of mix and match furniture; there wasn’t really a theme and the furniture didn’t blend together. They wanted to completely overhaul it.”

“They wanted a more storage, as they didn’t have a lot in their existing bedroom.
“The clients also wanted decorative space for photo frames and trinkets from travels, which were dotted around the house but they wanted them displayed in the bedroom.”
Inspired by a bedroom display in the Horsham showroom, which mixed gloss and wood, Glover showed his clients the full array of finishes before they chose Cashmere gloss and Light Blonde wood.
Designing accessible storage, Glover included drawers behind the cabinet doors, pull-down rails, tall drawer storage, and utilised awkward space with corner cupboards.
“The client were concerned about dead space”, he explains, adding: “They wanted to make as much use of the space as possible, so I also included full drawer sets.”
With the bed position as the starting point, “there was really only one place”, Glover positioned the headboard and bedside tables, before building around those to create the complete look.
He cites the biggest challenge as creating a balance for optimising practical storage, alongside creating decorative display space.
It saw him add an illuminated open plan shelf, alongside the concealed storage, which he says creates a lighter, visual appearance in the space which would otherwise be dominated by cupboards.
However, Glover states this is now his favourite part of the design: “The open shelving break up the units, nicely…and it’s a design I would really like in my house.”
