Sustainability analyst at KBB furniture manufacturer Symphony Group George Burtoft explains how it helps retailers provide greener solutions for kitchen refurbishments
Over the past few years especially, the kitchen and bathroom retail markets have become increasingly focused on sustainability as consumers continue to seek eco-friendly, greener solutions for their home renovation projects.
It’s imperative that showrooms are aware of the green credentials of the products they’re selling so that this knowledge can be passed on to consumers and they can make informed purchase decisions.

At Symphony, our knowledge and resources help showroom staff better guide customers looking to make the more sustainable choice.
With end consumers spending more money on bills, fuel and food, being able to recommend energy efficient and water efficient appliances, taps and technology to go with their new kitchen is welcomed advice.
We have always taken our responsibilities to the environment seriously, and are committed to playing our part by learning, innovating and implementing sustainable actions to limit our impact on the planet.
Sustainable actions
One of these actions is consistently working closely with our supply chain to better understand the credentials of our products.
Our collection has a wide range of finishes to choose from with different levels of recycled content, including our 70% recycled PET foil made from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.
We have also recently launched our Ocean handles which are made using recycled plastic such as fishing nets from the maritime industry.
All of our timber-based materials are FSC certified, while all plastic cabinet legs are made from 100% recycled plastic and all of the cardboard boxes we use for packaging are made from 100% recycled materials.
One of the statistics we’re most proud of is that 0% manufacturing waste is sent to landfill!
The manufacturing methods used by Symphony also allow products to be ‘Repaired, Not Replaced’, saving damaged cabinets from being sent to landfill.
And for retailers who are updating a showroom, Symphony is also a partner with The Used Kitchen Company, who will extend the life of an ex-display kitchen by finding it a new home, and encourages consumers to do the same.
